Over-the-knee boots have become my most versatile accessory for fall. Here’s why:
Although I do it all the time, it is pretty annoying to take off my heels, putting them in my bag, and then change into comfortable shoes every time I have to walk anywhere after work. Even worse, how annoying is it when you have somewhere to be after work, change into comfortable shoes to walk there, and then do the awkward shoe change back into your heels in front of the bar/ restaurant / charity event… etc. you are going to?
Discovering that over-the-knee books could totally be work appropriate eliminates this awkward transition because they are both cute to wear in the office and are also incredibly comfortable (and warm!) to walk anywhere in if you choose the right pair.
If you want to be bold and try your over-the-knee books out in the office, the right boot and the right styling is essential.
STYLING OVER-THE-KNEE-BOOTS
To style your over-the-knee boots for the office, I recommend finding an a-line dress or skirt and avoiding anything too short or tight-fitting. In this look, I paired the boots with a traditional silk blouse, a J. Crew a-line check skirt and a fringe scarf. I love the idea of softening the boots with some lighter colors so choose to do a winter white palette on top. Most importantly, when you are trying to pull off something trendy, like OTK boots, in the office, it is critical to pair it with something professional. The silk blouse is such an easy element of professionalism, that can be added to just about any look. I love the Ann Taylor silk blouse with the removable tie. The tie is an added bonus and could be made into a bow and worn under sweaters for a feminine and chic look.
FINDING THE RIGHT OVER-THE-KNEE BOOT
Since boots are typically an investment, it is important to spend time to find the ones that are a perfect fit for you. For example, are they too loose or tight in your calf? Do they come up too high on your thighs? To transition over-the-knee boots to the office, you they shouldn’t come up too high past your knee because you do not want to look like you are getting ready to hit the club! Additionally, you don’t want a heel that is too high or skinny. For the office, I love a flat over-the-knee book, or (if you are short like me) you can try a pair with a small chunky heel. The boots I decided on are the Stuart Weitzman halftime boot (which is essentially the 5050 boot with a chunky 2.5 inch heel)
The best part about these boots is their ability to seamlessly transition from day to night, work to weekend. Which is why you will probably start seeing a lot more of them in my photos! The ones I bought are a splurge, but there are lots of great similar options across different price points. There is a great pair on Nordstrom Rack that are very budget friendly, and a pair from Schutz that I loved that are more moderate.
