smart layering - That Pencil Skirt

Fall is a funny time. I personally, get so excited to put away the sun dresses and pale color and to through on comfy turtle necks and chunky sweater, but the weather doesn’t always cooperate. This time of year, when I wake up in the morning, it’s typically chilly and by the afternoon its really warm and sunny and I find myself sweating as I run around to meetings. I want to throw all of my summer tops into storage, but then end up needing them on those warm fall days. Smart layering is how I get by during this tricky time of year. Take this look for example, I paired a thin, turtleneck with an off the shoulder top I wore throughout the spring and summer. The off the shoulder top layered over the turtleneck makes for a cool look that is both office appropriate and fall appropriate without being too “warm.” I remember spending last fall and winter searching for a perfect fitted turtleneck to layer under things and I really struggled! Some were too baggy, some too shiny, some too tight in the neck. This turtleneck is the best I’ve found, by far, and is currently on sale for $66! It allows me to extend the use of one of my favorite spring and summer tops in a not so obvious way. Another layering look I love is to wear a white blouse under a sleeveless top.

This skirt is a great piece that I just purchased but plan to wear throughout all four seasons. In the fall, I love it as I’ve styled it here with a pair of simple pumps. And in the winter, I’ll be wearing it with tights, over the knee boots and a chunky sweater. The skirt works well in the office or on the weekends. If you are a little taller and concerned about the length, I’d recommend sizing up. I am 5’1 and wearing a 00 here, but sort of regret not getting the 0 instead! This bag is my go-to day to night bag. It fit way more in it than it appears – I often walk around with a notebook, pen, wallet, sunglasses, phone and makeup case NO PROBLEM – but isn’t too large to bring out at night. Sometimes if I have somewhere to go straight from work, I’ll take off the long strap and throw it in the bag for a more night time look. They are a major splurge, new purchase for me and I am obsessed. The fur pom pom on the back is a perfect deep green color and can be removed if I need to wear the shoes more conservatively. I love the pointed toe and thicker heel combo because they are both comfortable and still look dressy. I found a similar pair here that I also love for 1/10th of the price!
