Self-Portrait dresses have been all the rave – featured in almost every magazine I pick up and every website I scroll through. After trying on a few, I was convinced that the dresses would fit better on taller body types. The often midi-length skirts typically hit me in all the wrong proportions and the intricate detail of the lacework leaves very little room for alternations… and then I found this one. As soon as I tried it on, I got it – I totally understand why everyone is obsessed with these 🙂 I thought this dress in particular was ladylike, but short (so young), fun… but also conservative. The contradictions in the dress are almost a microcosm of my every day dilemma of wanting to be professional and appropriate, but also chic and trendy (I’m telling you, this dress really spoke to me!)
The dress definitely runs small – I was skeptical when the smallest size I could purchase was a UK 6 (I am a 0 or 00 pretty consistently…) but it truly fit like a glove. If anything, I would size up a bit. It was a tiny bit snug in the chest area.
Self Portrait dress (reminiscent of this Sandro black & white lace dress)
Casadei shoes (on sale with a silver heel; super high but pretty comfortable!)
